الله ≠ יַהְוֶה

There are scores of differences between the Holy Bible and the Qur’an to consider. The occasions on which the two books vary are so numerous that I am surprised that the scholars of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity have underreported them. In spite of this, I would like to address one major inconsistency and, Lord willing, would like to comment on the many other differences at a later time.

Christian scholars are in agreement that the Bible’s author is God. Muslims, by and large, would make a similar statement by attesting that the Qur’an’s author is also “God” (I would disagree with Muslims on this claim because evidence originating within Islamic circles, such as the Hadith, affirm that the collector and editor of the Qur’an was none other Muhammad’s successor, Abu Bakr).

The proper name for the God of Israel is Yahweh (Hebrew: יַהְוֶה). Yahweh is the divine name God chose for Himself (Ex. 3:14). This name is unique, distinguishing Him from all other false gods (Isa. 43:10; 45:22; 46:9). God stated that Yahweh would be His name, irreplaceable and forever known, to all generations (Ex. 3:15). An important detail which has escaped the people of Islam is that their religious language has no Qur’anic equivalent to Yahweh despite the fact that this is the chief name The Almighty uses of Himself when making statements in Holy Scripture.

In the Qur’an the name of god is Allah (Arabic: الله ), not Yahweh. The god, Allah, was worshipped at the Kaaba, a temple of sorts, in Mecca by pagan tribes prior to the time of Muhammed. It was formerly the name of the chief god among the idols before Muhammed introduced his people to monotheism.

Conversely, it cannot be said that Yahweh was a name used of  pagan deities prior to the time of Moses. It is a tremendous error to believe that Yahweh and Allah is the same God. Muslim scholars argue the fact that Jewish and Christians Arabs have been using the nameالله  for the God of the Bible, but I insist that this has been done for the sake of convenience. Muslims in the United States do precisely the same thing by selecting either God or Allah in their discussion depending with whom they are collaborating.  But Allah in the Qur’an is a god of an altogether different kind than the One True God of Holy Scripture.

Although presented to the masses as one in the same Personality, they are not equals. They are no more alike than the Greek god, Zeus, is synonymous with the chief god of the Canaanites, Molech.

Allah ( الله ) ≠ Yahweh (יַהְוֶה). It is important to keep this critical fact in mind or else confusion will arise. There is no god like Yahweh and it angers Him when He is confused with, or worshipped along with or substituted for, the false gods of the pagan world. We are reminded throughout Scripture that the one thing the Lord will not tolerate is His people offering fictitious worship to Him or, worse, being included alongside with other deities (2 Kings & 2 Chronicles). The steady stream of warnings was given through the prophets Isaiah, Hosea, Micah, and Amos who devoted much of their writing in an attempt to correct this severe error.
