”…then produce a chapter like it …” Qur’an 2:23.
Yes, Al-Qur’an surpasses many other books in the religious genre, but it is not the word of God. It is a compendium of religious dogma come from clever men.
I admit that I am incapable of producing anything like the Qur’an. But other people are, and have done so many times although Muslim apologists refuse to admit it. Who is there among us who is able to compete with veteran 7th century Arab poets, or any other professional rhymester or playwright?
It would not surprise you that I cannot compete with popular hip hop music artists either. Hip-Hop performers make their trade in a vocal style in which the performer speaks rhythmically and in rhyme. It is similar to a beat such as the Qur’an and other Bedouin poetic works. I cannot compete with the Qur’an any more than I can compete with the likes of Keith Cowboy and the Grandmaster Flash. These people are not musical geniuses by any means. In my own personal estimation they are unimpressive frauds, copy cats who have robbed from and corrupted original Negro Gospel spiritual melodies.
Islam poorly imitates Judaism and Christianity by making liberal use of the pseudepigraphic literature known to have circulated the realms of the Arab pennisula during the days of Muhammad and his Qur’anic compilers. Hip-Hop musicians, pilfer their ideas from a variety sources, too, and then assert bold ownership claims as if the art were of their own doing. Instead they are corruptors of original art.
I would like to turn the table on the sheiks and ask them to produce a musical piece as ingenious as that wrought by “gangsta rapper,” Snoop Doggy Dogg.
Produce “a verse like unto it” if you can.
