All subchristian cults are devoid of the necessary historical evidences to back up their theological claims. In one sense this is what makes them a cult. How can a religious declaration assert an orthodox view of God and His plan of salvation if the doctrines are no where found in the archives of the past?
With the exception of ancient Gnosticism, we find that Islam is the world’s oldest subchristian cult. It is a 1,300 year old fraudulent religious invention which attempts to gain legendary status by its mere association with Judaism and Christianity. In order to substantiate the historicity of their faith, Muslim scholars deceptively trace their religion to the time of Abraham. This endeavor has never been successful. The Qur’an was written by the followers of Muhammad more than 2,500 years from the time of Abraham and 600 years after the earthly ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. Ancient manuscripts and archeological digs of the biblical period do not reveal any religion called Islam and no religious followers called Muslims. Efforts to prove Islam as a successor of Abraham, Jesus Christ, or any other biblical personality have failed.
By reviewing the annals of both religious secular and historians we would expect to find clear reference of Islam or Muslims, or at the very least, recitations of the Qur’an if the religion had been decreed by the Creator of the universe, the God of History and Space and Time.
Neither archeology nor literature has ever recorded any such religion called Islam, or any variation thereof, until the seventh century when Muhammad (MHBHF) arrived on the scene. The world knows of no people known as Muslims or any religion called Islam until the Muhammad came forth from his Meccan cave. The Roman historians (c. 70 A.D. – 300 A.D.), no friends of the Christian faith, had made much ado about the Jews and Christians in their writings, and all the other religions they happened upon in their conquests; yet they know nothing of Islam or Muslims.
How Islam’s celebrated religious teaching escape the notice of every secular historian who has ever lived is an inconvenient reality for the Muslim apologist. Islam is omitted in the works of all historians because it is a comparatively recent invention of Muhammad and his companions, Abu Bakr As-Siddiq and Umar ibn al-Khattāb.
Islam is therefore not the religion of the one true God of history. It is a corruption of the ancient faith found in the Judeo-Christian Scriptures.
Next we have the Latter Day Saints, the religion of the Mormons. Their prophet received an updated revelation, too, in much the same way as Muhammad did. In the early to mid 1800s Joseph Smith, Jr. produced several ingenious extrabiblical religious documents such as the Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price, and Doctrines & Covenants. Smith also drafted an incomplete English Bible translation that supposedly corrected of all the “errors” of previous versions. Joe’s corrected translation remains unfinished to this very day even though he considered this work to be “a branch of his calling” as a prophet. We wonder how it came to be that he could lay claim as a bona fide messenger of God if his new Bible was not decreed for survival? Furthermore, since the Smith translation was not based on the original languages and manuscripts, but instead copiously plagiarized the King James, it has been found to be fraught with error wherever it deviates from the established translation. The work is outright useless as an evangelistic tool and Mormon missionaries have largely abandoned using it.
Jesus Christ promised to build His church and that His church his would prevail against the adversity of hell itself. Yet, Mormonism believes itself to be the “restored church” having replaced the “apostate” faith that was dormant for most of Christian history. Mormons are unsure when this great apostasy occurred (if you ask four Mormons, you get five different answers). LDS apologists are perplexed to answer whether or not there were any true Believers in existence from 70 A.D. to the time Joseph Smith came to be.
Where was Mormonism from the undisclosed time of “apostasy” to A.D. 1830? Did the Lord Jesus Christ not have any witnesses on this earth? Mormonism is not the religion of the one true God of history. It is a corruption of the historic faith found in the Judeo-Christian Scriptures.
Lastly we review the history of Jehovah’s Witnesses founded in Brooklyn, New York by Charles Taze Russell nearly 125 years ago. Despite the incessant declaration that their Organization uses the Bible, and the Bible only, as a rule of faith, the doorknockers are more eager to distribute extrabiblical materials produced by the Watchtower Tower & Tract Society than to supply Holy Writ. The Society claims to need only the Bible as their spiritual guide, but we know this is not true by the great preponderance of Watchtower publications that exist and are aggressively promoted by its membership. When asked if they could mention a name or two of Jehovah’s Witness spokesmen of the past 2,000 years, they are unable to do so. Nor can they cite any pre-Russellian writings as evidence that their faith had been upheld by Jehovah’s people throughout the centuries. Here again they cannot comment. No writings of Jehovah’s Witnesses can be produced prior to the American Civil War period because no such writings or teachings exist. The Jehovah’s Witness cult is another invention of yet another clever religious entrepreneur. The world is full of them.
Where were Jehovah’s people before 1870? Jehovah’s Witness is not the religion of the one true God of history. It is a corruption of the historic faith found in the Judeo-Christian Scriptures attempting to find virtue by its association with the Bible.
How does one find true Christianity in an age of religious counterfeits?
The first source to which Christian theology looks is the New Testament. It is the New Testament (written by Jews) which unfolds the divine plan introduced in the Old Testament (written by Jews) to reveal God’s plan of salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ (King of the Jews).
It is to the New Testament that the earliest church fathers turned to formulate the doctrines of the Trinity. Records of first-century Christian teaching on the Trinity can be found in the Didache (A.D. 80-120?), the writings of Clement of Rome (A.D. 70?), Barnabas (A.D. 75?), and Hermas (A.D. 78-85?). In his book Against Heresies, the church historian Irenaeus (ca. A.D. 115-190), a disciple of Polycarp, who was in turn a disciple of the Apostle John wrote Trinitarian statements to combat false teachers. Here we have an example of an early chain of dependable witnesses for all the world to see. Their writings are still with us today. History is on the Christians’ side.
In one form or another, and depending on the nature of the cult being refuted, the nature of God and His plan of salvation was summarized in what is known the early Apostles’ Creed. The Creed was expanded over time to include rebuttals against new false teachers that had made their way into Christian spheres. The form most widely accepted throughout orthodox Christendom since the fourth century is the Nicene Creed. It is used by all orthodox denominations the world over to this very day. Rejection of the Creed is cause for great alarm and a symptom of heretical opinion.
