… and [you] say, “If we had been living in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.” So you testify against yourselves, that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up, then, the measure of the guilt of your fathers. You serpents, you brood of vipers, how will you escape the sentence of hell? ¹
Every so often I receive a summary of murders and other crimes committed by Muslims against Christians. This week I received a story about an Ethiopian pastor who was murdered for preaching the Gospel. His pregnant wife was brutally beaten. What kind of peace-loving religion is this that lures a man from his home and kills him; then severely injures his defenseless wife, heavy with child?
Muslims there and everywhere are guilty of this assassination (and every other crime ever committed in the name of Islam). Though they may not have been at the scene of the crime, Muslims approved of this homicide by embracing the teachings used to justify the murder. They are no better than the assassin. Muslims who stood afar are as guilty as those who have blood on their hands. Jesus taught elsewhere that sins can be committed in the hearts of men, though they do not act on them.
They are children of hell, the final home of murderers.
In the Holy Scripture quoted above the Lord Jesus Christ gives his final woe to the religious leaders who were plotting to kill Him. The same also persecuted (and killed) His disciples. Jesus called His adversaries “hypocrites” because they were quick to say that if they lived in the time of the prophets, they would have never been involved in shedding the blood of these righteous men. Those who planned to kill Him and His followers would demonstrate they were just as bad as the murderers who killed the prophets in former generations. By rejecting Jesus and those He sent to preach the Gospel, they would be following in the footsteps of their forefathers and “filling up” their ancestor’s sin.
In severe language Jesus condemned the religious leaders, calling them snakes and a brood of vipers, whose eternal destiny was hell. The evidence that they were deserving of hell would be their continual rejection of the Gospel and the Gospel’s messengers. The Lord promised to send them prophets and wise men and teachers, but they would reject them all. They would even kill some and flog and pursue others.
Crime against Christ’s people is the same as persecuting Christ Himself. In the Book of Acts we read that Saul was “…breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord…” He asked permission from his elders to hunt the disciples in order to send them to prison. While pursuing church members Saul was struck down when Jesus Christ manifested Himself in an array of bright light. “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?” the Lord demanded. Confused and frightened, overwhelmed by the bright light, Saul inquired who might be asking. Jesus identifies Himself and informs Saul that one who persecutes the church persecutes the Lord. The people of God are united to Jesus in such a way that it is impossible to separate one from another, or even to separate them from Christ. Any attempt to harm God’s people is a strike against the Messiah.
The “Religion of Peace” deem the disciples of Christ worthy of death. In so doing, they persecute the Lord. But we do not fear this persecution, for Christ promises Christian martyrs a tremendous reward in the afterlife in return for faithfulness. The willingness of Christians to suffer in the Name of the Lord Jesus is remembered and awarded in beautiful ways we cannot fathom. The Book of Hebrews honors these martyred Christian as “those of whom the world is not worthy.”
The dreadful woes Christ mentioned have real application in our time. Muslims are condemned hypocrites also — like those Christ spoke of in the Gospel. Muslims are stage-players in religion whose claim is to be peace-loving and servants of God. But off stage they kill and persecute Christ’s bride, the Church. They are sworn enemies to the Gospel of Christ. Men such as these have seated themselves in the chair of Moses, whereby they tie up heavy burdens on men’s shoulders — performing their so-called good deeds to be noticed by men, while believing God owes them eternal life because they donate spare change to the poor or say long prayers to be noticed by others. They travel the world making converts, but in doing so make him twice as much a son of hell as themselves. Muslims boast they know the true way to heaven, but are unsure they are going there themselves. Muslims have neglected the weightier provisions of God’s law: mercy, justice, and faithfulness. When you meet a Muslim man, he presents himself as a pious servant of God, dressed in holy garb; he is proud of his outward appearance – a beautiful religious man he is! But this is a disguise: inside he is unclean, sinful, full of dead men’s bones. Islam builds handsome mosques to honor their dead prophet, claiming these monuments adorn the righteous; in reality they are tombs of death and sin. The mosque houses a population of vipers, cadavers, murderers, and thieves. Islam’s Sheiks are blind guides, leading a blind people.
Now consider this: Muslims pretend to honor the memory of prophets that have come and gone; meanwhile they hate and persecute those who preach the Gospel of Christ in the here and now. This is the darkest part of their character. Islam can honor the memories of Moses, Abraham, and give lip-service to the other deceased prophets. Because the dead prophets do not reprove them, nor disturb their sins, the Muslims claim them as their own. Muslims maintain that they respect the writings of Moses and the prophets, but the Gospel they abhor. With Moses came the Law: he wrote what men should be and what they should do; however, the Gospel reveals what people are: sinners who cannot achieve the requirements of Moses’s Law. Muslims will not submit to the Gospel which declares they need the blood-sacrifice (Christ’s body on the cross) to pay the penalty for their disobedience.
Muslims think if they had lived in the time of the prophets, they would have heard them willingly and obeyed. But this dream is a deception; in practice Muslims rebel against the Gospel. Preachers of the Good News are expelled from Muslim lands. When a man finds faith in Jesus Christ he is killed. How does a Muslim reconcile these inconsistencies?
Note the deceitfulness of the Muslim heart: they fancy they would rally to the God’s call in the time of Amos, Jeremiah, Zechariah, and Jesus Himself if they had the chance. The Muslim thinks of himself as someone who would not harm the prophets. But Christ says that they are hypocrites who would participate in killing them off if given opportunity. Muslims would be among those who would shed prophets’ blood, and this is evidenced by their willingness to slaughter Christians in our own time.
The coming damnation upon the Muslims will be severe. They have rejected the great salvation God provided for them. By killing the prophets of Christ (preachers, missionaries, foretellers of the Gospel), they shut up the kingdom of heaven against those that would turn to Him for salvation. They bear testimony of the fact that they would willingly murder holy men who lived before them.
By refusing to speak out against those Muslims who murder Christians, the people of Islam bring condemnation upon themselves. They participate in the killing by ommission. The Lord Jesus Christ said, “So you testify against yourselves, that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.”
OPEN INVITATION TO MUSLIMS: There is a relentless judgment coming upon you. You share in the high crime of murdering prophets. The judgment will be swift and fierce. You may not be awarded opportunity to hear the Gospel on a future day, so read carefully: God has provided salvation for your soul. There is forgiveness in Jesus Christ even if you participate in murder against The Holy One.
Saul of Tarsus was once a brutal persecutor of the church; but God chose this murderer to receive the Gospel and provided him power to repent of his sins. He then went on to be a great servant of the Lord. You, too, can be forgiven and fixed in special union with the Living Lord Jesus Christ. Admit your need for Jesus Christ as the sin-bearer of your wickedness. You cannot bear this burden by effort of your own making. Believe that the Eternal Lord Jesus came down from heaven and died on the cross for your sin. He was buried and raised from the dead according to the Scriptures. He is coming back again to judge the living and the dead. Receive the Spirit of God and flee from the idolatrous religion of Islam. By receiving the Lord in this way, you are joined to Him and can never be lost again. He will provide eternal life. Jesus is alive and this same life He gives to you.
Muhammad is dead. Jesus is alive. Why do you delay in receiving the Living Lord?
