Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts,
and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? … – 2 Peter 3: 3-4
For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools … – Romans 1:21-22
As the story goes American Atheist superwoman Madalyn Murray O’Hair once taunted God, demanding that He strike her down during a lightning storm. When nothing happened it was proved that God did not exist. Whether the report is true or not, I cannot confirm. But such an incident was probable considering Ms. O’Hair was known for ejecting similar vile and blasphemous slander in the direction of the Almighty. Timely Providence had arranged only a short time later that one of O’Hair’s own trusted and loyal, “peace-loving and benevolent” American Atheist staff members would murder her in cold blood, having used gruesome torture and methodically dismembering her body. I am sure this is a coincidence. “Coincidences” happen when one exhibits contempt toward the King of kings.
The constant stream of boasting flowing from the proud atheist should not cause anyone to believe that the Lord is unable or unwilling to destroy him. The Almighty will demonstrate His wrath and make His power known at a time of His choosing, not Madalyn Murray O’Hair’s or Pharaoh’s. Christopher Hitchens passed on and Richard Dawkins will too perish at the precise moment God ordains.
… his days are determined, The number of his months is with You; And his limits You have set so that he cannot pass. – Job 14:5
The boastful pride of atheists is answered by God without fail – at a time of His choosing. In the case of Pharaoh we read “…For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, “FOR THIS VERY PURPOSE I RAISED YOU UP, TO DEMONSTRATE MY POWER IN YOU, AND THAT MY NAME MIGHT BE PROCLAIMED THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE EARTH.” So then He has mercy on whom He desires, and He hardens whom He desires…” This is the same Pharaoh who previously mocked the God of Israel saying, “…Who is the LORD that I should obey His voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, and besides, I will not let Israel go…”
The parallels are uncanny:
- Both Pharaoh and O’Hair denied the existence of God
- Both Pharaoh and O’Hair were bent on preventing the public worship of God
- Both Pharaoh and O’Hair mocked God to His face (while denying His existence)
- Both Pharaoh and O’Hair had hardened hearts; in turn, God hardened them further
- Both Pharaoh and O’Hair pursued God’s people (Pharaoh on chariots and O’Hair in the courts)
- Both Pharaoh and O’Hair died bloody deaths
