Dr. David Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981) was a Welsh preacher and theologian. In 1906 his family moved to Llangeitho, Cariganshire, where his parents joined the local Calvinistic Methodist church, established by Daniel Rowland during the eighteenth-century revival.
In 1916, Lloyd-Jones joined eighty-one other students, including his future wife, to study medicine at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London. He was a brilliant student and amassed a string of medical degrees.
Although Lloyd-Jones was an active church member, his profession of Christianity was nominal until his early twenties. Conscious of sin and guilt before God, he was converted and given a stronger sense of call to Christian ministry.
Lloyd-Jones refused to undertake formal theological training, regarding his medical background with its diagnostic approach as valuable preparation for preaching. For Lloyd-Jones, preaching means delivering God’s message; therefore, it must be biblical, expository, and Christ-centered.
In this 2:53 minute message Dr. D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones shares the true meaning of Christmas.
- The unregenerate world falsely believes that the Christmas message is this: man at his best!
- The power behind the “man-at-his-best” message is the devil
- The true message of Christmas is the humbling of man and an exaltation of the glory of God
