Presented with a photograph of himself in the Rose Garden and asked about the tie, Mr Clinton is said to have professed amused bafflement, and the questioning passed on.

Part 29 of a series. President Clinton is questioned about the ties Monica Lewinsky gave him. Prosecutors asked the President if he was trying to send a signal to the former White House intern by wearing the gold necktie at a Rose Garden event. Lewinsky previously told prosecutors she gave the president a half dozen or so ties and sent notes asking the him to wear them as a demonstration that he was thinking of her.


On August 17, 1998 President Bill Clinton gave video-taped testimony before a federal grand jury in the Ken Starr investigation. This testimony is provided as released by Congress as an historical account without narration, without opinion.
